Guidelines for Dual Rostering at Canyon Hills Little League

Eligibility Criteria

  • AA Division: A maximum of two 9 year old players total are permitted per team.
  • AAA Division: Only one 11 year old player is allowed per team.

Movement Between Divisions

  • Dual rostering to a higher division is encouraged to provide players with more challenges and development opportunities.
  • Players can also be dual rostered to a lower division to gain more playtime and skill development.
  • Players must be dual rostered to another appropriate division and may not move across major age gaps unless specifically approved by the league.

Roster Limits

  • AAA Division: A maximum of 14 players is allowed per team.
  • 50/70 and Junior Divisions: A maximum of 16 players is allowed per team.
  • Each team may have up to two dual roster players from another team or division, provided the team does not exceed the maximum roster limit for that division.
  • Coaches should ensure that dual rostering does not interfere with the player’s commitment to their primary team, which always takes precedence.

Important Pitching Restriction

Players who are registered and rostered on a higher division team are not permitted to pitch when playing down in a lower division through a dual roster.

Example: A player whose primary team is in the Majors Division or the 50/70 Division may be dual rostered to AAA for additional playing time. However, that player is not eligible to pitch in the AAA division.

These players may participate offensively and defensively, but they are restricted from pitching in the lower division. This rule helps maintain competitive balance and supports player development within the lower divisions.

Approval Process

  • All dual rostering requests must be submitted through the Dual Roster Request Form.
  • The league administrative committee will review and approve requests based on the information provided and adherence to these guidelines.

Player Development Considerations

  • Dual rostering should prioritize the player’s development by allowing them to play at a higher level for extra challenges or in a lower division to build skills.
  • Coaches are responsible for ensuring that all players receive appropriate playing time and that dual roster players do not overshadow or disrupt team development.
